As a group now, we’ve been meeting for coming up 18 months. In relationship terms, I suppose that would make it “official”, but we’ve always shyed away from formalities for fear of it becoming cumbersome, and frankly…a bit dull.
But with popularity spreading and now upwards of 40 people regualrly attending walks, it felt like time to do something to set a standard for The Outsiders “spirit” – to set expectations, and protect that magic of this community that we’re so enjoying.
So as ever, the question was asked of the membership…”what do we value about this group, that we need to protect?” and as ever, it was met with enthusiasm.
A few pointed out that in the spirit of the group, a list of things we shouldn’t do, just wouldn’t cut it.
So we landed on a Community Code of Collaboration. A set of shared values, that when you’re part of the group, whether on a walk or in the WhatsApp chat, you act on.

As a community, we believe the following 5 values capture the “spirit” of The Outsiders.
Kindness. We act with kindness and respect to ourselves, others and the planet. We
create a warm, inclusive environment, where everyone can be themselves.
Fun. This is a friendly space for joyful experiences. We escape the pressure of our daily
work, enjoy the wonders of nature and have a good time with great people.
Simplicity. Being outdoors is a natural leveller, informal and relaxed. The simplicity of
going for a walk removes awkwardness and allows us to speak freely.
Connection. Working by yourself can be lonely, but here you can show up as you are
and feel welcomed. We hope you will feel like you are part of a group of friends.
Gentle ambition. You will be around people who are doing interesting things, without
noise or ego. We lift each other up, support where we can, and cheer each other on.
